Wally Wise Guy safety steps

As you can see, I'm a turtle and I like to teach children and adults how to Shelter-In-Place.

Whenever there is danger, I quickly go inside my shell. By 'Sheltering-In-Place', you can be safe too!

Who is Wally?

My name is Wally Wise Guy and I am the Shelter-In-Place mascot! The Community Education Task Force and Baytown, Deer Park, La Porte and Pasadena Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPC) in Texas asked me long ago if I could help explain sheltering-in-place to our youth. Who better than a large, friendly turtle who demonstrates how he shelters inside his shell? Today the Wally Wise Guy program has expanded to 1119 member organizations in 26 states.

I travel to schools twice a school year (once in the fall and once in the spring) with volunteers, showing fundamental shelter-in-place concepts through skits and classroom activities for students in K-3rd grade. Older elementary students enjoy reviewing Shelter how-tos through fun, interactive classroom visits from volunteers.
