RCRA Hazardous Waste Management & DOT General
August 13, 2024
Location: STEP Training Center | Time: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. | Duration: 8 hours
Under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines a "hazardous waste" as a solid waste that exhibits specific characteristics or is located on an EPA list. RCRA regulations deal with certain chemically contaminated wastes that are created through the normal course of business and ensure that these "hazardous wastes" are managed properly from the time they are created until the time they are recycled, disposed of, or treated to make them safe for the environment.
Depending on the amount and type of hazardous waste a facility generates, the regulations describe the management items required for compliance. The regulations in Part 262 include management standards, some of the training requirements, and rules for the Hazardous Waste Manifest. Shipping DOT-regulated hazardous waste requires the shipper to be knowledgeable of the labels, containers and shipping papers needed to maintain compliance.
This training includes both the hazardous waste requirements for Large, Small, and Conditional Exempt Generators and the DOT general requirements when shipping hazardous waste.
The objectives of this training session include:
- Understanding the requirements of the hazardous waste management regulations
- Understanding hazardous waste listings
- Hazardous waste manifest completion
- Contingency Plan requirements
- Gaining familiarity with DOT regulations
- Preparing a shipment of hazardous materials
- Determining what security procedures apply based on your facility shipments
