The Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout) -​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ OSHA’s Top 10 Violations 2018 #5

Each year, OSHA compiles a list of

the top 10 most cited violations that compliance safety and health officers see on their site visits. Failure to control hazardous energy consistently finds itself on this top 10 list, because maintaining a written program can be quite demanding. This is a very important aspect of maintaining a safe workplace as Lockout/Tagout may pose many threats to you and your employees.

The following aspects of the Lockout/Tagout standard are the most cited:

  • Development of procedures 1910.147(c)(4)(i)

  • Performing periodic inspections of these procedures 1910.147(c)(6)(i)

  • Maintenance of a comprehensive Lockout/Tagout program 1910.147(c)(1)

  • Provision of proper Lockout/Tagout training 1910.147(c)(7)(i)
